“American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis (ATL) in Brasil is caused mainly by L. braziliensis, but L. guyanensis and L. amazonensis are important agents in the Amazon region. ATL challenges are associated with many different and severe clinical forms, decreasing cure rates, drug toxicities, and long time to cure. An improve for rapid laboratorial diagnosis and better therapeutic strategies are of utmost relevance to overcome the high socio economic burden of this endemic disease”.
