This presentation examines the detrimental effects of climate change on skin health,
emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and proactive measures. As global
temperatures rise and extreme weather events become more frequent, individuals are
increasingly exposed to various environmental factors that directly impact various skin
conditions.
The effect of increased temperatures on the skin will be scrutinized, examining the
effect the 2023 heat wave had on various skin clinics held in two locations between the
months of May to September this year on the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia. The types
and numbers of heat related pathologies seen during the specified period will be
reviewed.
By promoting proactive measures and empowering individuals (health care providers
and patients alike), we can collectively work towards safeguarding our skin, those of our
patients and overall well-being in a rapidly changing world.
