Aging skin is a natural aging process that occurs in humans with age. Aging skin is caused by endogenous or intrinsic factors and exogenous or extrinsic factors. Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) produced in cells is one of the mechanisms for aging skin. Increased
ROS and decreased antioxidants from the body can cause cell damage and affect aging skin. Reactive Oxygen Species can be reduced using antioxidants. Sources of antioxidants can come from within or outside the body. Antioxidants that come from outside may derived from natural antioxidants. Antioxidants from natural ingredients have been widely studied, especially plants that contain phenolics, anthocyanins, and xanthon. The effect of phenolic compounds on plants plays a role in neutralizing free radicals, so that the antioxidants found in plants have attracted a lot of attention as an aging skin therapy.
